14 Best Places to Visit in November (USA + International)

November travel means low shoulder season rates on travel, hotels, attractions, food, and more. Plus, it’s quieter and emptier than when the December crowds pour in for the holidays. It’s not difficult to find the best places to visit in November—it is difficult narrowing them down! This list will help.

November is a sweet spot for travel for a variety of reasons. In the Northern Hemisphere, you can enjoy the last of the fall foliage and cool weather. If you’re looking at the Southern Hemisphere, summer is just beginning! You can enjoy warm weather and outdoor activities in places that are just heating up.

Just keep in mind that “summer” in some places doesn’t necessarily mean “dry.” For a lot of destinations, traveling in November means you’re visiting right after the hurricane or rainy season. But you can still enjoy a destination: just bring a raincoat!

Best Places to Visit in November in the US

Here are some of the best places to vacation in November in the United States

1. Florida

Florida travel in November means a break from the heat and humidity, especially further north. If you’re visiting St. Augustine in Florida, you’ll love the balmy, breezy days that allow for longer periods of outdoor activities.

Miami and the Florida Keys further south have warm weather in November for perfect beach days. Hurricane season is coming to a close, but it’s still a good idea to check the forecast when making your plans for November.

I also recommend checking out Tampa, Naples, or Sarasota, with all their history and outdoor fun. The water on the Gulf of Mexico can be a little bit colder than on the Atlantic side of the state. But you can still find lots of water activities, like a kayak tour of the mangroves near the gulf.

2. Georgia

For places to visit in November with perfect sweater-wearing weather, consider Georgia! You can wear all the layers while you enjoy a cider and take in the last of the fall foliage. The colors peak in late October to early November so plan to come earlier in the month (check out my fall foliage guide for a prediction map).

Downtown Atlanta is lovely with its changing leaves; you can take the opportunity to enjoy the cooler weather and explore the city’s amazing art scene or take a food tour to enjoy some of Atlanta’s best dishes. If you’re wanting to get outside, north Georgia has amazing state parks with great waterfall hikes like Tallulah Gorge State Park.

3. Arizona

By November, Arizona’s blistering summer heat is gone. It’s a great time to enjoy all the amazing outdoor spaces — just be aware that because of the milder temperatures hovering in the low 50s to high 70s, it’s a popular time to visit for tourists.

November in Arizona is also the perfect weather for hiking, mountain biking, camping, and more. In Tucson, walk downtown and enjoy all the city’s culture and history – or visit nearby Saguaro National Park for cacti galore.

In Sedona, take in the beautiful red rock formations across the desert by driving the Red Rock Scenic Byway, or take a fun jeep tour!

If seeing the Petrified Forest National Park is on your bucket list, go this month. The walking paths through the crystalized trees can be difficult in the heat of the summer sun, but in November you can really enjoy a flat hike there.

4. Texas

By November, the blistering summer heat in Texas is behind you and you can enjoy mild days — it’s a great destination to visit during winter, as well as autumn!

In east Texas, Houston is a popular November destination. With days still reaching the low 80s, it’s a great time to go kayaking at Buffalo Bayou Park.

Take in Austin’s impressive skyline with a nature walk through the heart of the city along The Boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake. And in San Antonio, enjoy art and culture along the San Antonio RiverWalk where you can take a hop-on-hop-off trolley tour of downtown.

5. California

When you’re looking for the best California spots to visit in November, remember that your experience will largely depend on where you are in the state — it’s huge!

San Francisco to the north is in the 60s this time of year. Use the cooler temperatures to take a bridge-to-bridge cruise or explore other parts of the Bay Area.

In southern California, San Diego, and LA weather is consistently pleasant. And while Santa Barbara is stunning all year round, you’ll love November’s lower prices and lighter crowds among its Mediterranean vibe. Check out local wineries or take in the local white stucco architecture the city is known for.

6. South Carolina

For a cozy and romantic getaway, Charleston is perfect. The weather calls for hot drinks and cozy layers. Enjoy a golden sunset along the bay with the gorgeous antebellum houses of historic Charleston all around or take a luxury dinner cruise through Charleston Harbor.

The city is also gearing up for the Holiday Festival of Lights and just feels super festive even in November! In fact, this month is festival season in all of South Carolina.

Go to the iconic Pecan Festival in Florence at the beginning of the month. Or there’s the Hilton Head Island Oyster Festival around mid-November.

7. New Mexico

If you love outdoor adventures, you’ll love New Mexico in November. The weather is crisp and cool and perfect for a fall hike. The fall foliage reached its peak already in October, but you can still enjoy sunny, clear days on the trails.

You can also head to Santa Fe, which is known for its history and amazing art scene. Take in the Pueblo-style architecture and unique art installations when you go on an art walk

In November, the ski season has just kicked off at Ski Santa Fe! Hit the freshly snowed slopes or sip hot cocoa in a cozy lodge.

8. Costa Rica

One of the best places to visit in November outside of the United States is Costa Rica — it’s one of my faves in general, a now a new place you can find a digital nomad visa!

You’d think it would be a busy time of year for the island, but it’s a quiet off-season. This means you can enjoy lower rates on hotels and plane rides, as well as availability at resorts that are usually fully booked! Plus, November is the end of the rainy season in Costa Rica.

Visit Monteverde’s beautiful green rainforest or take in Caribbean vibes in Puerto Viejo.

Looking for unique experiences? Go chocolate tasting at a chocolate plantation near Jaco or self-guide to the nearby Nauyaca waterfalls; take a boat ride in the Veragua Rainforest, or go bird watching with a local naturalist.

9. Chile

The last time I visited Chile was exactly during November! Head to the Southern Hemisphere for long spring days and plenty of sunlight.

While November is technically still the shoulder season in Chile, it’s a busy time for tourists across the country and prices are high.

People come for warmth in the central city of Santiago or the alien-like Atacama Desert with its fascinating landscape. Visit Valle de la Luna to feel like you’re on the moon, or go on a guided day trip from San Pedro de Atacama to visit the 7 hidden lagoons of Baltinache.

If you’re going further south to Patagonia, pack layers. It may be summer, but it is still cold in the southernmost region of the continent! I trekked multiple days through Torres del Paine National Park, which I can firsthand say is still beginner-friendly if you are not as confident outdoors.

10. Nicaragua

All year-round Nicaragua is a huge international destination for lovers of architecture and outdoor adventures. In November, it has cooled down with temperatures hovering around 80 and it’s perfect for all kinds of excursions.

Enjoy mild days and explore the colorful Spanish colonial cities like Granada and Leon. Excursion to volcanoes on Ometepe island, or try out surfing classes with backpackers in San Juan del Sur.

The crescent-shaped beach here is dreamy with tons of soft sand. And when you’re ready to get out of the water, there are all kinds of great bars and restaurants just off the beach.

11. Vietnam

This time of year, it’s still monsoon season in certain areas, so you won’t be spending a lot of days on the beach! But November is a wonderful time to explore Vietnam’s drier northern and southern regions. As the rains come to an end, this month is the beginning of the winter high season, so make reservations well in advance.

I love the idea of booking a hop-on-hop-off sleeper bus going from north to south, they are high quality and comfortable here!

You’ll see cities across the country, like Hanoi, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh/ Saigon, and more. It’s a fun way to travel if you’re open to the idea.

And for a fun experience, get a custom suit in Hoi An. We have some from A Dong Silk and we love them!

12. Peru

If you’re trying to avoid crowds, November is a good time to plan a trip to Peru. It’s the shoulder season and the chill of winter is behind you. Just be prepared for wet springtime weather in many places.

Southern Peru is one of my favorite regions on the continent. Huacachina in the desert coastal region is a magical getaway with warm and sunny days. Waves are also picking up on the coast so it’s a busy time for surfers on the beaches just north of Lima. And Paracas is a great destination for wildlife viewing if The Galapagos in Ecuador doesn’t fit your budget.

And in the Andes, it’s starting to warm up, though it’s still very humid and wet. Book a tour of Cusco and Machu Picchu, but pack for the unexpected.

13. Australia

One of the top places to visit in November is definitely Australia. It’s still the spring shoulder season and you can enjoy comfortably warm weather. If you plan on coming to the southeast coast, just come during the first half of the month.

This includes cities like Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, and even Brisbane, which get seasonal rain later in the month.

While it’s the shoulder season, the southern coast gets pretty regular tourist traffic, so try to book things a few months out at least. Keep in mind that wet season has begun up north and plan to see the northern rainforests another time.

Instead, try out a tour of the Springbrook National Park. You’ll see gorgeous rock formations, waterfalls, and the Glow Worm Caves! Or head to Perth on the east coast, which is bone dry and warm in November. Spend time on city beaches or explore Perth’s Swan River on a river cruise.

14. Barbados

November is one of the best times to visit Barbados in the eastern Caribbean. It’s the end of the rainy season and you can enjoy warm, sunny, less humid days.

Because it’s still the shoulder season before the winter high season, there are thinner crowds and great deals to find. I suggest bringing a sweater for the evenings, which I found to still be chilly if there was a breeze.

For more raw nature, I recommend you head to the east coast. I actually stayed in Bridgetown on the southwest coast. Here you can take a walking tour to explore all the city has to offer. Enjoy great nightlife, shopping opportunities, and fabulous free public beaches while you’re here too!

Enjoy the Best Places to Travel in November

When you’re looking for amazing places to visit in November, it’s important to think about what kind of adventure you want to have and the ideal weather for your trip.

When I travel, I seek to be fully present, connecting with local cultures and people. I’ve seen a lot of the places come alive after a heavy rainy season or when the heat finally dissipates.

This month can be the perfect time to get away before the busy holiday season and soak in all these spots have to offer!
