3 Versatile Card Layouts for Paper Scraps – Lynn Dunn

Do you have a stash of patterned paper scraps and aren’t sure what to do with them? Today, I’m sharing 3 different card layouts that are perfect for using up those leftover pieces—and best of all, they’re incredibly versatile as you can use them in portrait or landscape style.

The cards feature products from the Floral Charm Suite from Stampin’ Up! But keep in mind—you can use any supplies you have on hand with these card layouts.

Card Templates

First let’s talk about the three different templates for the card layouts. When I have a variety of small or larger size scrap papers, I tend to just lay them on an A2 size card front and play around with them until they “fit together” to form a design. Each of these pieces of patterned paper are adhered directly to a 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″ card front (A2 size card).

I love to create cards in portrait style. These are side folding portrait style cards, but you can easily create top folding cards if you prefer that. To create a side folding card base, cut a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ piece of cardstock and score the 8-1/2″ side at 4-1/4.” To create a top folding card, cut a 4-1/4 x 11″ piece of cardstock and score the 11″ side at 5-1/2.”

Once you have the card bases created, you are ready to cut your patterned papers and cardstock to create the background design. These cards feature products from the Floral Charm suite from Stampin’ Up! but feel free to use supplies you already have on hand.

Versatility of the Card Layouts

Now let’s talk about the versatility of these card layouts. The layouts can be used in either portrait or landscape style. Changing the orientation of your card creates a whole new look! The first set of cards feature the use of these 3 different layouts in portrait style. As you can see, the cards have the same look as the first set featured above. The only difference is that I changed out the patterned paper and colors.

Let’s use the same card layouts and measurements to create these cards in landscape style. This time I turned the card base from the portrait orientation to landscape. You can rearrange the paper pieces used on the portrait style card to create a different look on the landscape style card. The measurements for the paper pieces are the same.
