Nobody Posts Their Failures on Social Media

This post is about Nobody Posts Their Failures on Social Media!
I will explain why social media posts can often feel very deceptive and have a very negative effect on our mental health as a result.
Back in early 2020 I signed up to Instagram and created a personal account.
I was fresh out of a breakup from a very toxic relationship.
And like everybody else, I was locked down and isolating due to the pandemic.
I also suffered personal tragedy losing my father to illness in April that year.
Despite the many twists and turns and my mental health being literally all over the place, I stuck with Instagram.
I found it a distraction at the time.
I found it a way to feel connected to people.
I found it a thing to use to pass my time.
It didnât help, it made me feel worse about myself, about my situation, my life, everything, I hated it.
I was regularly engaging with idiots who were nothing short of attention seekers.
Women just flashing their bodies like sex objects.
Men showing off fast cars, and expensive watches.
It just felt so narcissistic to me, and like I already mentioned just coming out of a very toxic relationship made me feel very turned off by such behaviour.
I wanted to at the time post about my struggles.
I wanted to post about my late father.
I wanted to post about my pain and suffering.
And that is when I realized ânobody posts their failures on social media, especially a platform like Instagram.â
I have nothing against the company, or its infrastructure, itâs the users that bother me.
And there and then, when I realized that I had become addicted to Instagram, and it was having more of a negative effect on me too, I decided to delete my personal account.
And I have never gone back.
I have plenty of content inspiring my readers to reconsider their use of social media too, following my experiences.
People donât post on Instagram sharing the truth, that life is tough.
That mistakes happen, that things go wrong sometimes.
Itâs just a highlight reel of BS instead.
Letâs explore this a lot deeper:

#1 â Itâs All Fake

If you havenât gathered already, social media and in particular Instagram is all fake, all an act, and not real.
Itâs quite frightening.
I have seen men and women look completely different on their Instagram physically compared to real life.
With the number of filters, make up, lighting and angle, you can take an average looking person and turn them into a Supermodel.
But itâs not just the photos and videos when I am referring to it being fake, it is the image that is coming across.
I couldnât unsee this when I first noticed how fake people are and come across.
What they are really saying when they post is the following:
âPlease love meâŠ.â
âPlease give me validationâŠâ
âPlease give me attentionâŠâ
âPlease tell me how amazing I amâŠ.â
âPlease reinforce your support for meâŠ.â
âPlease just like meâŠ.â
When I dated a narcissistic woman, it was no surprise at all that she was utterly obsessed with her personal social media.
She felt like a mini celebrity.
She was addicted to it.
And every photo, video, post, all of it was like the highlight reel, to show off to the world as she sought attention and validation.
The worse times however was when we would be having a huge argument.
Or a huge problem.
Or a serious issue together.
And there we would be out and about, not talking to each other, bitter, angry, and miserable eating in a restaurant or having a drink.
She would whip her phone out, as I would force a smile, and upload it to Instagram of us âhaving fun.â
Whilst her followers would bombard her with comments and support, âyou guys look so happy together!â
We were not.
We were miserable, it was all fake.

#2 â Itâs Superficial

I believe nobody posts their failures on social media, largely because those most addicted to it, and the more toxic the users, are extremely superficial.
Itâs all about the following metrics for them:
Image
A personâs social media is all about image, how they look, how they come across, how they react and act.
Assuming even if they have a smaller following, itâs all about coming across attractive, confident, and arrogant.
Therefore, posting a failure etc, goes against the entire fake façade they are trying to put out online to people.
Money
Of course, money and superficial go hand in hand, and are a match made in heaven.
Therefore, spending more money, being more lavish, well that shows more success than failure, right?
You will be amazed how many people with expensive watches or handbags flexing on social media, are truthfully riddled with credit card debt.
Judgemental
I have seen superficial people on social media being so rude and judgemental to others.
Looking down on others, ridiculing others, even posting pictures without consent.
When really all that is doing, and highlighting is their own insecurities.
Jealousy
These people on social media use their profiles etc as platforms to push their agendas.
And their hate towards others.
Typically, those who they are jealous and seriously envious about too.
Zero Self-Awareness
They are the sort of people to take a selfie at a funeral.
Or post something inappropriate at a very sensitive time.
Or focus on the superficial things, rather than the emotional important things.
These people are materialistic.
These people are social climbers.
These people are all about one-upmanship.
These people are all about superficial living and image.
Why on earth would they post their failures?!

Do you know who needs to invest in digital security?
Anyone with something worth protecting.

#3 â Attention Seeking

Now of course like anything and everything in life, there are and always will be exceptions and outliers.
Basically, there are people on social media who post their failures.
Post their setbacks.
Post their losses.
Share their âtruths.â
But take it with a pinch of salt, as under that âheartfeltâ post, which typically is always in black and white, is a massive attention seeker.
Here is a great example:
Jessica is obsessed with social media, she always posts and always checks her phone several times an hour for likes, comments etc.
Jessica however was shocked to hear of the passing of her grandmother.
She was not close to her in the slightest but brought it upon herself to post pictures and videos all over her Instagram.
âYou were like a second mother to me!â posts Jessica.
She wasnât she made little to no effort to her grandmother when she was alive.
Jessica was flooded with comments.
So many messages.
So many likes.
So many condolences.
Jessica LOVED the attention, and for an entire month, absolutely milked the passing of her grandmother online.
It made her feel good.
It made her feel popular.
It made her feel wanted.
Thatâs how sick and twisted these people can be, using tragedy, or any setback or failure to their benefit.
The benefit of attention seeking.
They may even be controversial in their posts, to strike up more shock and horror from followers online.
Just to be flooded with even more attention.
More messages, more likes, and comments.
Itâs so sad.
But thatâs what happens with these people on social media.

Hereâs something you can do right now to save money: switch to Mint Mobile, who Iâm partnering with on THE SCG SHOW brand.

#4 â Not Real Life

Social media may feel real.
Social media may appear real.
Social media when using it might seem extremely real.
Social media can make people look very real.
Social media can make you feel connected in what seems like a real way, even to strangers and celebrities.
But social media, be it Instagram or whatever, truthfully is NOT real life.
It cleverly distorts our perception of reality, and itâs users are doing a very fine job of doing that for sure.
When I walked away from my toxic relationship with the narcissist a few years back, I was shocked by the responses of people I knew.
âYou looked like such a perfect couple online!â
âOn Instagram you looked amazing together!â
âYou were always having so much fun, what happened to you guys?!â
The photos and videos were fake, superficial NOT real.
The real failure was that she put an image across that we were happy and were getting along with each other.
We were not.
Well, I certainly wasnât.
Nobody like that will post their failures online unless like I stated already it is purely for attention seeking reasons.
Because itâs a fake life.
And they are largely fake people.
Something I no longer and will never want to be a part of.
