I receive social security benefits, but live with someone else who has a legal right to speak for me. I was previously unaware of exactly what they told the government until I read through Tenncare forms that showed up in the mail today, and was a bit confused…
Therefore, I have a couple questions about state SLMB program qualifications.
Could you be eligible for it if you receive $2,140 a month in social security if part of that amount is Survivor Benefits? Also, do Survivor Benefits need to be stated on an application? (They didn't include those under gross payment before taxes in the other income section, which they claimed was around $1,300. I've gotten over $2,000 total for years now.)
If I have a representative payee (I think this what they are?) speaking on my behalf, can they claim that I'm head of household/live on my own when we live together in the same house? (That's what was on the forms.) Could it maybe be treated like some form of rent for example if they are given all of my social security money monthly? Would there be any issues with that?
For further context on this part, they're a family member, and we have two other family members also in the house. We've also always lived together. I am absolutely not head of household normally.
If these things are fine, cool.
If they're not, what exactly should I do? I don't have another place to go.
In the event anything could be considered fraud, would they go after me, the person speaking for me, or both of us?…
Any clarification would be great! I've tried asking elsewhere and gotten nothing so far.
