Washington State — Should I turn down employer insurance if I will still be qualified through medicaid? Job is Americorps, which I believe doesn’t count as income in WA

I am starting an Americorps position through the Washington Conservation Corps. As this is an Americorps position, I believe (according to this chart) that it is exempt from counting as income for WA medicaid. As a result, I will be well under the income limit.

The Washington Conservation Corps plan is worse than medicaid.. I assume, however, that my network would be a bit bigger.

As far as I understand it, this plan would become my primary coverage, and medicaid my secondary.

My main question is this: Should I decline the WCC insurance to save myself the hassle of dealing with two sets of claims, possible incorrect copays, and potential denials of service? As a secondary question if anybody knows, am I reading this right about Americorps money not counting as income? Third, would a bigger network be in my favor enough to justify the hassle?

Some caveats:

  1. I am anticipating, but can change the timing of, an $8000 dollar scholarship covering rent (not tuition, so I believe treated as lump sum) that, if accepted, would likely kill my Medicaid eligibility.

  2. Should I be forced off Medicaid, I believe I can enroll in the WCC insurance at that time. By the looks of it, I can also end WCC coverage at any time (after my letter makes it through the mail).

I am leaning towards not taking the coverage at the moment, but I would appreciate more seasoned advice if possible. Thank you for your time.
