Hi, I'm coming here hoping for help because the numerous phone numbers I've tried keep leading to dead ends and I can't seem to get a human on the phone willing to let me ask questions. I keep getting sent in circles and I'm really stressed so I appreciate any help.
We are located in Michigan. We are a family of 6, but it will be 5 next month as one child will turn 18, and I recently had to renew our medicaid. My husband had gotten a $1 raise and we went from being fully covered under medicaid to now my husband and I having a $1,769 deductible which is a huge change. The deductible is more than half his paychecks some months. It also lists the same deductible for us both but I am not sure if it means we both have a 1,769 deductible or if that is between us combined?
From what I can tell, the monthly income limit for a family of 5 is 4,330. My husband gets paid 2x a month, and sometimes he makes less than that (before taxes), and sometimes just over by a few hundred because his hours worked vary a lot and he has health conditions that cause missed work sometimes. One of my children does also receive SSI, but I keep seeing that it is not counted towards income… does anyone know if that is true? If they are counting that we are probably over the limit monthly, but if they are not counting that we are sometimes under and sometimes over, so I'm trying to find out if the high deductible is accurate.
We both take numerous medications including some for epilepsy, and just one of those medications alone is over 1,300 but we are paycheck to paycheck with no savings so I am not sure how we will afford this. I have to see a psychiatrist regularly in addition to medical appointments and I am on 6 medications, I also have to do regular bloodwork. I'm just looking for some clarification that a high deductible like this is accurate and not a mistake so I can try to figure out what to do next. I know I can appeal but I don't want to waste anyone's time if anyone out there knows that this all makes sense.
Again thank you for any help.
