My Book Review of “THE GIRL WITH THE LOUDING VOICE” by Abi Dare.

My Book Review of “THE GIRL WITH THE LOUDING VOICE” by Abi Dare.

A true artist’s masterpiece.
A wholesome and courageous story, portraying the realities on the life of females (girls, mothers, young adults) in Nigeria.
Set in a Yoruba village of Ikati and the popular city of Lagos Nigeria. Abi Dare’s work tells the story of Adunni, a 14 year old girl, whose dreams for the future are being limited by the death of her dear mother. Leaving her to scorch under the fierce and selfish restraints laid on girls in her village by the men and the society at large. Lagos wasn’t any different, as even the rich & luxurious ladies were still chained by gender limiting beliefs.

The paper back version I have.

But despite all the societal norms, Adunni’s courage and glimmer of hope from kind hearted exceptional characters she encountered fueled her growth, and rekindled fading dreams of a better tomorrow. Her voice of change, though locked up initially would be louder in due time, not just for her redemption, but for all girls out there.
A courageous tale requiring your understanding and expertise in reading pidgin English, for a bulk of the book. Thus I won’t recommend it to any young adult or interested reader who is still starting out their reading journey, so as not to hamper your beginner English vocabulary and reading interests.

Aside that con, it was a good & emotional read, cutting across themes on Gender inequality, teenage marriages & pregnancy, polygamy, poverty, love, friendships, cruelty and survival.
With that, I gladly ended this book, rating it with 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Gracias ❣️
