Poor People Don’t Receive Even One Penny of Medicaid Money

The GOP Thinks We Are Stupid

The fallacy behind the tiresome Republican line that poor folk “should work for it.”

Republican Representative Mike Flood of Nebraska held a town hall. It did not go well for him. There was a lot of booing, a lot of derision, a lot of anger in that crowd. This was Nebraska, not California, so to claim it was just a crowd of radical liberals would be disingenuous in the extreme. Look at them!

The problem Rep. Flood faced was trying to sell the audience on the ironically titled “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBB). America is not buying what the GOP is selling. Polls on average show approval for it at around 33% give or take. The OBBB boots people off Medicaid. It boots people off SNAP (previously known as “food stamps”). It gives a few small tax breaks to us peasants, which expire in a few years, but gives permanent tax cuts to the super wealthy.

That is a hard sell. So, Republicans use the rhetorical equivalent of a shell game. You have to watch closely as they slide the shells around, distracting you. It was all on display by Rep. Flood.

I want to call out the biggest BS line that Republicans keep trotting out. They all repeat some version of it…
