Dear Assistant Professor Morris,
Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts on Medicaid. I always appreciate hearing from constituents like you, and I thank you for taking the time to share your views with me.
I am here to fight for New Jersey’s 10th congressional district, and that is not a responsibility that I take lightly. {GWM lives in Jersey City and works in NYC as tenured professor Hunter College.}
As you know, Medicaid is a vital part of our nation’s healthcare infrastructure, providing 80 million of the most vulnerable Americans with healthcare coverage. Medicaid covers Americans from the beginning of life to the end, paying for 4 in 10 births and covering care costs for more than 60% of nursing home residents nationwide.
In our district alone, Medicaid covers more than 223,000 patients, and in our state nearly 2 million are covered under Medicaid, which you may know as NJ FamilyCare.
Medicaid is not just a government program, and it’s more than any statistic — it is a lifeline for millions of Americans. It provides access to healthcare for our most vulnerable populations, including low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities.
