There is no joke. My UX portfolio consisted of 34 pages, covering only three digital projects. I was proud of my case studies. But I got no interview.

As a DesignOps Manager, I’ve noticed that my hiring manager and I spent exactly 12 seconds reviewing the designer’s portfolio before discussing whether to meet with them.

That’s when I realised creating a portfolio like a “case study” doesn’t work.

Let’s look at how hiring managers browse portfolios today. Just like TikTok, they scan for immediate value.

That’s why I call it the ‘TikTok Formula’: Hook, Impact, Storytelling. They’re scannable, visual, and get to the point fast.
