The Rip (2025) TRAILER REVIEW: Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Sasha Calle, Steven Yeun

Before we begin…

What is a Rip?

In police slang, a Rip is illegal looting by the police. In a police operation, any valuable resources they confiscated (money, gadgets, jewelry, ect.) must be surrendered. If they kept it for themselves, that is a rip.

I like this because it’s like a gritty police drama with sprinkles of Hollywood action set pieces. Also, they will answer the question: Can Matt Damon and Ben Affleck work in a gritty police action drama?

The trailer begins with Ben Affleck in a black shirt and a gold necklace with a ‘scar’ on his cheek, smoking a cigarette. He has to look gritty and badass, not an A-lister who lives in a mansion.

Two ‘detectives’ in a suit sat opposite him. “There’s been some developments. We have a few more questions.”

A squad of black police cars drove across the suburban streets of Miami. You hear the voiceover of Matt Damon, “The last time we spoke, you describe the job as follows: the unit works a dope game — drugs, guns…”

In front of one of the houses, Matt Damon BANGS the door to knock.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

“Knock! Knock!” Ben Affleck said, “Miami PD.”

Actor Sasha Calle approached the door.

“How you doin’ this evening,” Matt Damon said.

“Five cops magically appeared on my doorstep,” she says. “I’ve been better.”

“Mind if we come inside?” Matt Damon asked.

It cuts to Affleck and Damon holding handguns ready to shoot. BTW, Sasha Calle’s house looks like a dusty storage area. You hear the voiceover of Matt Damon, “But the majority of our work consisted of cash seizures.”

You hear dogs barking. “But I don’t have any drugs,” Sasha Calle told them.

“Dogs aren’t trained to detect drugs,” Ben Affleck said. “The dogs trained to detect money.”

They pulled down a ladder from the attic. In the attic area, holding flashlights, they saw a hole with a bunch of red buckets.

“How much was the tip that came in?” Affleck asked.

“$300 grand,” Damon responded. He then squatted beside the hole. “That’s $20-million-dollar rip.”

Holy sh**. The buckets are filled with cash.

So their team counted the money.

Matt Damon made a half-meant joke (opinion), “It’ll be so much easier if we stole that money. I swear to God.” He laughed.

The team smiled.

Sasha Calle said, “You should just take the money and walk away…before this goes really bad for all of us.”

Ring…..Ring….

A landline phone rang. Affleck picked it up. Someone who sounds like Jigsaw said, “No one needs to die tonight. You have 30 minutes to get out of the house.”

This movie is not yet released (as of writing). It will be on Netflix in January 2026. However, I have a theory

#StopDiggingTheory

You can also call this the #BribeTheory. The syndicate is bribing them $20 million to shut up and stop digging. Because if they continue, first of all, they die. The Jigsaw voice did say that ‘No one needs to die tonight.’ Or worse for the syndicate, they might find the true magnitude of this crime if they kept digging, which could be worth $20 billion or something crazy. It’s a business decision for the syndicate. They are willing to lose $20 million to avoid a bigger loss. Anyway, back to the trailer.

“What we do right now and who we talk to matters,” Damon told Affleck.

They also showed you a few more cast members. Steven Yeun is part of the team. Scott Adkins is shown wearing an FBI vest. I bet you one or more of them work for the syndicate. But I’ll give my predictions at the end of the article. This is now a big Mafia/Among Us game.

Who is/are the Impostor/s?

Matt Damon

Ben Affleck

Sasha Calle

Scott Adkins

Steven Yeun

Kyle Chandler

Teyana Taylor

You hear Affleck’s voiceover, “The longer we stick around, the dicier sh*t’s gonna be.”

Affleck and Steven Yeun start shooting at someone running along the rooftops.

“You think I wanna jack this rip?” Damon asked Affleck.

“I don’t trust you right now, and that’s a f*ckn’ problem!” Affleck shouted at Damon.

Inside an armored car, Matt Damon asked Kyle Chandler, “Any ideas who might want this money?”

Kyle Chandler smirked, “$20-million dollars? Where do you wanna start?”

This is purely instinct. I don’t trust Kyle Chandler’s character. I think he’s a bad guy.

Bang! Bang! Bang! (Gunshots)

Car chases!

You see Matt Damon’s face.

On screen, you then see…

Trust

Has

a Price!

There’s a quiet moment for one second as you see Matt Damon.

And then…..

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Damon is in a parking lot as gunshots rain all over him. He then fired back.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The trailer ends with another quiet moment. Sasha Calle noticed the tattoo on Damon’s hand. “A-W-T-G-G….what does it mean?”

“Aowh, were the good guys,” Damon responded nonchalantly.

I’ll go back to my question earlier…

Who is/are the Impostor/s? PREDICTIONS

Matt Damon

Ben Affleck

Sasha Calle

Scott Adkins

Steven Yeun

Kyle Chandler

Teyana Taylor

My prediction is Damon or Affleck; one of them could be the bad guy. Damon is the calm one, and Affleck is the hot-headed one. I’m going with Matt Damon.

Scott Adkins vs. Kyle Chandler. Adkins is a cool martial artist. Kyle Chandler is too obvious, but this is just a fun, entertaining weekend movie. It’s not trying to be intellectual or an awards contender. So yeah, Kyle Chandler is a bad guy?
