Medicaid’s Structure Harming Millions

What is the Social Issue?

After turning 19, however, in many cases they lose their eligibility for Medicaid and CHIP(Children’s Health Insurance Program) and are subject to the much more limited Medicaid eligibility criteria for adults.

The current recession leaves many of these young adults vulnerable to becoming uninsured given the increased difficulty of finding a job. Young adults are highly affected because they have reached the age to where they are no longer eligible for medicaid. With that being said, they would have to reapply for medicaid.

Who is affected by it?

Middle class: 62% ,and decreasing,of middle class are accepted by the structure of Medicaid.

Upper class​: People in the upper class has 28%, and increasing, of their population that is covered for Health care.

Impoverished/ Lower Class:10% of the impoverished people are covered for medical expense which is quite confusing because people that has no homes will get sick often which mean they would be more in need.

This data shown shows how the people who could/can pay for medical expense is getting treated more that the people who don’t even have the money to pay for or struggle to pay for medicine.

What are existing solutions?

Millions of people who are affected by the structure of Medicaid are at a disadvantage compared to the people. A ways to have a solution to the problem is trusting other medicaid, medicare, etc. Solutions varies between each family. There are solution for the lack of medical expense such as Medicare and Health Insurance. There isn’t much alternative to medicaid so there is a large amount of people affected and limited with medical needs.
