The Peace I Found After Saying Goodbye to Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram

For years, I spent no less than five hours every single day scrolling through social networking sites — Facebook, TikTok, Instagram. I convinced myself I was “just catching up” or “relaxing,” but in reality, I was drowning in a sea of endless updates, meaningless videos, and the private lives of people I didn’t even know well.

I followed strangers’ every move, their carefully curated personalities, their staged smiles and dramatic posts. And somewhere along the way, I realized — none of this had anything to do with me. None of it benefited my life, my mind, or my goals. It was like watching a soap opera that never ends, except I wasn’t even sure why I was watching.

So I decided to take a step that, at first, felt radical: I deleted them all.

The result?

It’s hard to put into words how much my mind and nerves have calmed. My psychological and physical well-being improved in ways I didn’t expect. My days suddenly had more space — time to work on myself, time to spend with my son, time to focus on the goals that actually matter.

I no longer care about the lives of people who aren’t part of my close circle. If your number isn’t in my phone, it means you’re not part of my life — and that’s perfectly fine. The rest? They don’t concern me.

I’ve also rediscovered the joy of following news intentionally. I choose my trusted channel and watch the updates that truly matter to me. No more endless feeds, no more distractions.

The truth is, social media isn’t “evil” by itself — but the way I used it was stealing my time, my focus, and my peace. Now, I’m determined to keep this new clarity. And maybe, just maybe, you might find your peace too, once you put the phone down.
