An illustration of a friendly robot pointing at a blue, vintage rotary telephone. Above them, large white text reads, “1–800-CHATGPT.” This image represents the concept of calling an artificial intelligence service for assistance, like a helpline.

I will give OpenAI creativity points on this one.

Earlier this year, they released an experimental version of ChatGPT that you access via a landline (or WhatsApp).

You can call 1–800-CHATGPT and use it like any other version. Ask questions, have it tell you a story, etc.

You can use it for free, without an account, for 15 minutes per month, for now. They also indicate it is a service for only those who are 13 and older

This makes the tool available to people who don’t use computers or can’t get to one. It’s not a huge market, but I don’t think that anyone else is doing this, so it might be a smart move.

You can connect it through your WhatsApp here:

I think that is enough info to try it if you are interested.

If you want to know more first, here is OpenAI’s article about it — https://help.openai.com/en/articles/10193193-1-800-chatgpt-calling-and-messaging-chatgpt-with-your-phone

If this article didn’t bore you to tears, smash clap 👏 like you’re leveling up in Zelda. Because algorithms love XP.

The “Call Center of the Future”

If 1–800-CHATGPT blew your mind, wait until you meet its coworkers:

  • Voice Mode → When your AI starts talking back (politely, most of the time).
  • Audio In, Audio Out → The not-so-silent treatment — teach AI to listen, not just read.
  • Text In, Image Out → For when words aren’t enough and you need pictures to prove it.
  • Text In, Code Out → Because sometimes the best response is 200 lines of Python.

📞 Hold music suggestion: smooth jazz or light existential dread — your choice.
