How to Dealwith the Malnutrition in the Philippines
Malnutrition simply means bad nutrition and children who
have bad nutrition usually do not get or have the
nutrients a healthy and nourished body has. The main
cause of malnutrition especially in the Philippines is
malnutrition because children are not being provided
with the right kinds of food their body needs.
Lack of money usually means lack of food which leads to
malnutrition. Children are the ones affected by this
condition. Malnutrition is a serious problem of the
country that needs to be solved the soonest time
possible because if left unsolved, this condition may lead to death. How is the World Health
Organization dealing this problem?
The World Health Organization, in cooperation with the Department of Health or DOH is
conducting a monthly “Operating Timbang” on places where there is a high rate of malnutrition
cases. Once weighed, children with ages 0-10 will participate in growth-monitoring program as
well as supplementary feeding. The WHO will ensure that the different objectives will be met.
That includes providing an estimate of the nutritional needs of children with moderate nutrition,
examining stunted children in a separate manner, to formulate recommendations to enhance
the dietary management of malnutrition and to recommend for feeding children with moderate
malnutrition for working groups developing standards of food products for malnourished and
underweight children.
At present, with the incessant support of the World Health Organization and the government,
malnutrition cases in the Philippines have somehow reduced and this elicited a positive effect to
most of the children who have participated in the program. Still, there are many malnutrition
cases to deal with especially in hard to reach areas. Children in rural communities are still
hoping to live a full life without suffering from hunger and the different diseases that malnutrition
brings.
Feeding them with the right kinds of food and giving them what they need is what a huge
percentage of children who come from poor families wants. Parents should be responsible in
providing their children with good food to ensure their health and to free them from all sorts of
illnesses that may hinder them from living a quality life.
The World Health Organization has been giving its share in reducing, if not eliminating
malnutrition but people should be aware that not everything can be asked for. Parents should
know that feeding their children is a responsibility they should not neglect. Children have the
right to receive nutritious and healthy food to be able to stay healthy.
In order to have a healthy body, children should eat nutritious food and should be fed three
times a day or more. Children should not be the one to suffer the result of the parent’s
irresponsibility of raising a family.
One of the ways you can help in reducing the cases of malnutrition in the Philippines is by
becoming an advocate by doing your unique ways of helping children suffering from famine and
malnutrition.
