Hi, I’m Ng and here’s my 14 fen (分) on the topic
As someone living in China, I’ve never had access to the same version of TikTok that people in the United States enjoy.
Here, we have Douyin, which is similar but separate.
Our version is shaped by Chinese laws and digital restrictions, while yours is filled with global creators, trending dances, social commentary, and free-flowing content.
I’ve always been curious about what it’s like to use the American TikTok, but I understand why I can’t — it’s part of how our system works.
What surprises me, though, is how long it’s taken the U.S. to seriously consider banning TikTok when national security might be at stake.
I don’t say this out of pride or criticism. I say it with an understanding that every country has the right — and even the responsibility — to protect its own interests.
If my government sees risks in letting foreign apps operate here without restrictions, then why shouldn’t the U.S. government do the same?
