For quite some time now, I have been hearing how good Nat Cassidy’s books are from fellow authors and readers. With that in mind, I decided to give his new release a spin, and am I ever glad that I did.
As I worked my way through this one, I go the niggling sensation of familiarity, which I was finally able to put my finger on. Certain elements of “Kiddo’s” story reminded me of a segment in The Twilight Zone Movie called “It’s a Good Life.” Once I pinpointed that, I was able to fully dive into the rest of the book.
If you are looking at the cover and the title and expecting a werewolf novel, but what you actually get is something with much more substance. You have a “special” child on the run with a failed actress after a rather wild event at her apartment complex, none of which I shall spoil for you.
The cast of characters are all fantastic and flawed in their own unique ways. The actions scenes are brilliant, with each one better than the last, but it is the twists that make this a top notch read. There are two main twists, the first of which has enough clues to make you guess what’s coming, but the second arrived, for me at least, like a bolt out of the blue.
The ending to When the Wolf Comes Home is almost certainly going to be divisive, but I absolutely loved it. I think I have another Nat Cassidy book residing on my Kindle, and that one will be getting read sooner rather than later.
