I Call BS On The Government Claiming To Cut Waste Fraud And Abuse

A first hand account of life with Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, and Social Security

I’m a disabled single mom who is trying to build a business to not need to be on Social Security forever. I’m not doing this just because I get less than $1500 from Social Security as a disabled person with a kid each month. There are also limitations with my personal life and an asset limit of $2000 at any time. I can’t get too serious with anyone because that would jeopardize my benefits. But the biggest thing on top of that is the hoops that I have to jump through to keep my benefits while keeping my business. This is the largest reason I find the whole waste fraud and abuse argument for cutting the budget of programs BS.

Every 6 months, I have to submit paperwork saying what I spent on my business and what I earned. Usually I do this through a profit-and-loss statement. But every 6 months I have to turn this back in to prove that I’m not making too much money to be kicked off benefits. I have a phone interview every year to make sure that my situation hasn’t changed too much. Every 6 months, I must review and confirm that everything is the same as it was 6 months prior and up-to-date. I have to certify that I’m still disabled every 2 years.
