I have been a hug fan of Meg Shaffer’s writing since I read her debut novel, “The Wishing Game” two years ago. The book was probably one of my first magical realism reads (even though I didn’t really know what that meant at the time), and was truly a love letter to books. The only thing that I didn’t enjoy about “The Wishing Game” was that after I closed the book for the final time, I was left for with a burning desire to read the (fictional) Clock Island series that Meg created as part of the book. The descriptions of the characters’ love for Jack Masterson’s writing reminded me so strongly of sitting curled up on the couch as a young girl, veraciously devouring my mother’s old Nancy Drew novels. I was more than a little upset that I would never be able to read the Clock Island books.
A few months later, I discoverd that Meg had a second book coming out, entitled, “The Lost Story.” I had fallen so deeply in love with “The Wishing Game” that I just had to get my hands on this new book as soon as possible. If I couldn’t read Jack Masterson, I…
