Sometimes a little curiosity is all you need to kick off a good night. You do not need a business plan or a side hustle. So many people use ChatGPT to try and make money or develop a side hustle. Tonight, why not use ChatGPT to have a little fun? You just need a spark, one small idea to get your mind moving. These prompts are meant to do exactly that. Copy them, paste them into ChatGPT, and see what happens. Do each prompt 5 times and you will get 5 different responses. Have fun with these!
1. The Forgotten Letter
Prompt:
“Write the opening of a handwritten letter discovered in a dusty attic. It was written fifty years ago but never mailed. Capture emotion, mystery, and a hint of regret.”
What it could yield:
A weathered sheet of paper, the scent of cedar in the air, a trembling line that begins with My dearest, I thought I had forgotten the sound of your laugh, but last night I heard it again in the rain. From there, it’s all yours to finish.
2. The Dinner Guest
Prompt:
“Describe an imaginary dinner between me and one historical figure. Include dialogue, food details, and a moment of unexpected connection.”
What it could yield:
You sit across from Abraham Lincoln as he folds his napkin twice before speaking softly about patience. The candle flickers, the soup cools, and you find yourself wishing you could stay in that moment a little longer.
3. The Job That Shouldn’t Exist
Prompt:
“Create a short job interview between me and a hiring manager for a completely made-up position that secretly reflects who I am.”
What it could yield:
You’re applying to be the Keeper of Forgotten Mornings, the one responsible for returning lost moments to people who overslept their chance. The interviewer nods and says, Tell me about a time you wished for one more sunrise.
4. The Song Memory
Prompt:
“Write a story about someone hearing a song that instantly brings back a vivid memory from twenty years ago. Keep it under 200 words.”
What it could yield:
A diner jukebox hums to life. A man with gray temples freezes mid-sip. The first notes of Landslide echo through the room, and suddenly he’s back on a gravel road in 2005, headlights chasing fireflies.
5. The Coffee Shop Stranger
Prompt:
“Write a scene where two strangers meet in a coffee shop and discover they share an unlikely connection. Use dialogue and a touch of humor.”
What it could yield:
She spills her latte. He hands her a napkin. They realize they both just quit the same company on the same day, each believing they were the only one fed up enough to do it. By the second refill, they’re laughing like old friends.
These aren’t business prompts or growth hacks. They’re just small keys that open creative doors. The fun is in watching where they lead. I got a good chuckle from each one of them. I also got a plot line I will share with a romance writer I know. I think she could take that plot line and develop it into her next novella. Maybe you’ll finish a story, maybe you’ll laugh, or maybe you’ll just run these prompts and surprise yourself with what happens next.
