Got on the phone with Meta Support about a problem my wife had with her social media account. And all we could focus on was whether the woman on the phone was real or an AI.
At some point, it felt like AI, something like "I'm glad you had a good day," or very generic. Also, some background noises felt fake. We also got some repetition of phrases that look too similar in the tone and words. All of that suggested an AI.
But at times, the responses were instantaneous, leading us to doubt whether this kind of streaming AI generation has gotten that good. We also heard clickings and pauses when she was sending us an email. Like what you could experience with real support centers.
After more than 20 minutes on the call, we're still not sure whether we talked to a human or a machine.
And it's freaking.
