The trailer begins with the London City skyline.
“Why the sudden curiosity about your dad?” Mom Elizabeth asked her British daughter, Annie.
“Mother, you can’t avoid the subject forever,” Annie (Lindsay Lohan) said. “At least tell me what he was like.”
It cuts to a beautiful Napa Valley Winery.
Inside the barrel room, “Dad, I wanna talk to you about my mother,” Hallie (Lindsay Lohan) asked her dad, Nick (Dennis Quaid).
“What about your mother?” Nick clarified.
“Dad, I’m almost 12,” Hallie said. “How long do you expect me to believe that the stork dropped me on your doorstep?”
It cuts to Elizabeth hugging her daughter, Annie, before crossing the London streets.
It cuts to Nick walking with his daughter, Hallie, with his arms over her shoulder as they walk through the tarmac.
You then hear the cheesy, child-friendly ’90s male trailer voice, “Everyone in the world believes they’re unique in their own way.”
It cuts to Annie stepping out of a car with a full-on kids’ power suit, grey, checkered, with a collar and skirt. It’s very British.
It cuts to Hallie Parker stepping out of a car wearing a shirt and a jean jacket.
“Annie James and Hallie Parker are about to discover…”
I think the two girls went to a fencing camp. In full fencing gear, they both looked behind them. And then, Annie and Hallie saw each other and how much they looked like each other.
Inside a cabin, Annie said, “It’s so freaky.” She puts a picture out, and so does Hallie.
“…their both unique in the same way.”
The two girls put the picture together. What they had is a torn picture of their parents. When you put it together, it’s Nick and Elizabeth on a date.
“That’s my Mum,” Annie said.
“That’s my Dad,” Hallie said.
I’m around the same age as Lindsay Lohan. It’s all coming back to me how heartwarming this movie is.
“And you and I are like,” Hallie said, “were like sisters.” She had tears in her eyes.
A smiling Annie said, “Hallie! Were like twins!”
“I have a brilliant idea,” Hallie told Annie. “I think we should switch places. I’ll go back to London as you, and you go back to California as me. If we switch, they have to un-switch us. And when they do, they have to meet again, face to face.”
To be fair, that seemingly ‘stupid’ idea is what an 11-year-old would think. And let’s put ourselves in Annie’s and Hallie’s shoes. These two girls long for the parents whom they have never met in their entire lives. What if you could spend an entire weekend with your Mom or Dad, the one who was not present in your life?
The two girls cut their hair to make them the same. Brown hair scattered on the floor. They looked at themselves in the mirror. “Honey!” Hallie told Annie, “You never looked better.”
It cuts to daytime at an airport tarmac. With a smile on his face, Nick said, “Welcome back, kiddo!”
Annie (pretending to be Hallie) smiled and said, “Dad! Finally!” She ran into his Dad’s embrace. The Dad she met for the first time. That’s sweet.
“Now, two sisters…”
It cuts to Hallie (pretending to be Annie) wearing a checkered power suit. She entered her Mom’s mansion. “You’re back!” Elizabeth said.
“Mother!” a happy Hallie said.
“…are setting the perfect trap, to bring their parents, back together.”
On the staircase, Hallie hugged her mother, Elizabeth, for the first time.
“It seems like it’s been forever,” Elizabeth said.
With tears in her eyes, Hallie said, “You have no idea.”
It cuts to inside the bathroom. Annie held a landline phone, “This is an Emergency. Dad is in love!”
“What?” a shocked Hallie asked, talking to her sister inside an iconic red London phone booth.
It cuts to Meredith (Elaine Hendrix) as she hugs Nick from behind while she unbuttons his shirt. “Bring your shirt like this. I like it when I can see a little chest hair.”
She then sat on Nick’s lap and gave him a kiss.
“It’s disgusting,” Annie said. “If there’s any hope of getting Mum and Dad back together, we’ve got to do it fast.”
Meredith confronted Annie on her face. Annie squinted her eyes. “I am marrying your father in 2 weeks,” she told Annie. “And nothing you do is going to come between us.”
During a trek or workout, Meredith drank water when a gekko stood right in the middle of her tumbler.
“AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!”
A shocked Meredith screamed. Annie laughed on the side.
It cuts to Meredith, now wearing office attire.
“Hi, Meredith,” Annie said, appearing on her right side.
“Hello!” she responded.
And on her left side, “How you doin?” Hallie appeared on her left.
A shocked Meredith screamed and held both hands to her mouth.
“Both of them?” Nick is puzzled. He also had wet hair like he had fallen into a pool.
Elizabeth walked through the hotel hallway. But suddenly, the two girls appeared from her left and right sides. Elizabeth covered her face. “Does everyone here know something I don’t know?” she asked.
“Yes!” Annie and Hallie responded together.
BTW, this is the first movie of Lindsay Lohan.
Hallie Parker prayed to the stars from her bedroom window, “Star light. Star bright. First star I see tonight.”
It cuts to Elizabeth and Nick dancing. I think it’s their prom night. It cuts to the present time, Elizabeth and Nick dancing at a yacht. The background is fireworks amidst the night sky. And then, they kissed.
It cuts to the two girls hugging their Mom.
It cuts to a still-wet Nick. Daughter Hallie, the real Hallie, hugged her. “Mom’s amazing. I don’t know how you ever let her go.”
It cuts black to Hallie praying to the stars. She’s now out on her balcony. “I wish I may, I wish I might.”
And then it cuts to both Hallie and Annie, they are both praying in their rooms, “How my wish, came true tonight.”
The trailer ends with Elizabeth and Nick kissing.
So did they get back together?
