CA – Getting a phone call from Quality Health Partners on behalf of Medi-Cal or Blue Shield Promise

I received a phone call today from “Quality Health Partners” on behalf of Medi-Cal (California’s Medicaid) and Blue Shield Promise insurance in order to schedule a health assessment.

I explained that I already had a primary provider and various other doctors and specialists that I see regularly. They said that was fine and that just work in conjunction with my provider. They continued to ask me to verify date of birth, my address and then sent me a link by text message to a Doxy.me website in order to set up a video/microphone connection for an upcoming appointment at a future date.

The phone call seemed kind of sketchy as it was unsolicited and I have plenty of providers and specialists looking after me as it is. I did not provide any other sensitive information but allowing access to my phone’s camera and mic was a bit unnerving and immediately felt regret about speaking with a possible phishing scam.

I googled the phone number after the call and not a whole lot of information came back about it. Just a few sites alleging that people reported it as possible scam but for collections and other services, nothing health related.

So I did call Blue Shield Promise member services afterwards and explained. They called the alleged provider and were able to confirm the same date and time for the future appointment and verified that they use Quality Health Partners, so it seems legitimate and I’m feeling reassured about it all now.

I am kind of annoyed that I have to speak to yet another random provider for a health assessment as I’m already well taken care of with my PCP and all of the specialists I’ve been referred to, but whatever. My phone number seems to be bouncing around with these random providers and I guess they’re eager to bill the insurance.

Anyway, I just wanted to post this to find out if anyone else is being contacted by this company in California or has had similar feelings about the sketchiness of the phone call and questions.
