In this post, I will review Hera AI, the AI motion graphics generator everybody is talking about.
I wrote this post because I’ve now used Hera almost every day for a month.
Honestly, it’s been insanely helpful for my videos.
But it also took a while to learn how to use it the right way.
So in this post, I will show you my results, my favorite workflows and AI templates, and more.

My Experience
Let me share my experience with Hera AI.
First, even though most people (me included) call it Hera AI, the website is actually hera.video.
With that being said, let me show you how easy it is to use.
#1 First Use
First, just head over to their homepage.
Hit “Start Creating”.
This opens up an AI chatbot, similar to ChatGPT, but this one creates motion graphics.
Then, just tell the AI to create a motion graphic animation.
For example, I told the AI to “Create a YouTube view counter animation”.
Here’s the result I got:

Something I’d easily think is from a stock library.
But this one is entirely AI-generated.
One thing that I love about Hera is how versatile the animations are.
I thought it would be able to do just some very, very basic stuff…
But it can actually do quite a bit.
For example, I created this Whatsapp Motion Graphic:
As you can see, the text makes sense and everything looks smooth and natural.
Or as another example, I created this animation for people to click my discount links in my YouTube videos.
Here’s the result:
To do this, though, I had to use the editor too. The AI wouldn’t just make the text small enough to fit into that view, so I had to adjust. I’ll show you how edits work in just a second.
But one more thing that’s useful to at least try: You can use different input types.
Here are the options:
You can drop images, videos, audio, fonts, and CSV files (for animated charts of data).
With images you can do cool animations.
For example, I told the AI to make a promotional motiongraphic for the homepage of Hera AI, based on this image:
Here’s the result that I got back:

Obviously, there are many ways the AI could have interpreted my input, so this result is a bit arbitrary to me.
But with a better prompt (than just “Animate this website”) I could get way better results.
#2 Edits
Now, Hera AI is insanely good when it comes to creating these motion graphics.
But I also like the fact that there’s a motion graphic editor.
And no, it doesn’t require any skills to use.
Just open up one of your designs, and tell the AI what you want to change.
For example, let’s tell the AI to place this motion graphic in a computer screen.
It takes about 20–60 seconds for the AI to do the edits.
Here’s the result:

It’s exactly what I asked for.
On top of editing with these text-based instructions, you can also edit using the interface.
Just stop the animation to any frame you like, and click to activate the elements.
Then just do something for them.
For example, I will make the YouTube logo bigger in the design by dragging its corners.
Now it looks like this:

Obviously, this doesn’t apply the effect for that one frame, but for the entire video instead.
If your design has text, you can also change that in two ways:
- Tell the AI what the text should say.
- Activate the text with your mouse and type in whatever you want.
This is super useful, and once you play with it for a while, you’ll get the gist of it.
This brings me to an issue that commonly occurs, though.
Because this tool doesn’t just create videos but also elements and layers, it’s sometimes chaotic.
That’s because there are lots of layers. Lots and lots of those.
Even on this simple design, there are almost 20 layers:
If you never touched the objects, that wouldn’t be a problem. But more often than not, you need to adjust.
So the problem is this: When you try to activate a specific element for edits, it tends to pick the parent element or something else.
Sometimes, it’s literally impossible to choose the item you want to.
Luckily, there’s the layer selector.
I use this one a lot. Basically in every design where I want to do changes.
The selector makes it easier for you to edit/remove elements that are behind others.
Perhaps the biggest problem I often have is that there are just so many layers.
Sometimes it even seems that there are some silly extra layers. But maybe it’s just me.
Another weird issue is that sometimes you lose your elements in your design when trying to edit those. And once that happens, you can’t use undo to get it back (even though there is an undo button).
If that happens, I either recreate the design, or just give up on that project.
One super useful feature that I wish there was is a similar selector that Canva has.
For example, if I go to Canva and right-click on an element, I get to do all sorts of useful stuff.
But in Hera, this is missing.
I’m sure it’s super hard to implement.
But this is something I’d love to see.
Not just because it would be fun to have, but that would help merge layers, group elements, align those, lock them, etc.
I’d basically love to see almost all the features that Canva has enabled in this selector on Hera too.
But if you’re someone from Hera’s team reading this, I know it’s way easier said than done! 🙂 I’m a former developer myself.
#3 Templates
Now, one thing that’s super useful in Hera is the templates section for most common use cases.
To access these, click on “Templates” on the left.
For example, to create a world map animation, you don’t need to build that from scratch. There’s a template that knows every country and city in the world.
Just select that template from the list.
Just click “Use this template”.
It then opens up the exact same editor as you saw earlier with this design.
To customize this template, just tell the AI what you want to do.
For example, let’s tell the AI to colorize the borders of Finland instead. And also, let’s tell it to do this in yellow color.
The AI takes a while to load it.
Let me show you the result as a video because I think it’s just amazing:

It colorized Finland, just as I wanted.
Sometimes the video might be too long.
For example, the map animation took 3 seconds and the rest of the video just continued for an extra 20 seconds or so.
No problem! You can tweak the duration of each animation from the above settings in the editor.
I forgot to mention this in the previous section, but yeah, you can do this with any design.
Speaking of the edits, different templates come with different editing options.
For example, the map feature lets you choose a different map style from the top bar.
For example, here’s the same map view motion graphic but with a regular map view.
If you use these templates, I recommend sorting them in the most used order.
This shows you the best templates that people have found/created.
For example, this news animation template is super sleek.

This is how you use Hera to create motion graphics.
I recommend just going out there and giving it a shot.
As I said, sometimes the editor can be a bit tricky for newcomers.
But once you get to use the layers, the multi selector features, and the prompt-based edits together, you’ll surely get a lot out of this tool.
This is one of the only AI tools I actively use right now as a content creator for my YouTube video intros.
I couldn’t recommend more.
Also, they let you try it free, so it’s a no-brainer to at least give it a shot.
Pros
- This is just so much faster and easier than learning how to use those professional motion graphic tools
- Requires no prior animation or design skills
- Simple, beginner-friendly interface
- This tool lets you upload brand assets (logos, fonts, colors, SVGs)
- Customizable templates with decent flexibility
- Great for marketing, explainers, social media, and quick promos
- Good for small creators who want fast results without After Effects
- Minimal learning curve once you understand the workflow
Cons
- Obviously, not as powerful or flexible as After Effects—but then again, you’d have to spend months learning how to use tools like that
- Complex, custom animations are difficult or impossible. Sometimes the AI just misses its mark and won’t do good results, no matter what.
- You often need to do many attempts, and the AI might still get it 90% done, but leave the rest out.
- Some of the AI-generated results can look generic without customization
- Paid plans are required for serious use. The free trial doesn’t allow for mass-downloading your designs
- A bunch of minor inconveniences, small bugs and lots of missing features (still a very new and hyped product)
Pricing
- Standard — $20/mo: 200 prompts, 50 images, 1080p export, no watermark, 1 brand kit, no collaboration.
- Pro — $40/mo: 500 prompts, 100 images, 4K export, advanced map highlighting, 3 brand kits, collaboration.
- Mega — $100/mo: Unlimited prompts, 300 images, 4K export, unlimited brand kits, collaboration, and advanced map highlighting.
- Enterprise — Custom pricing: Everything in Mega plus custom templates, advanced security, audit log, workflow integration, dedicated success manager.
Alternatives
Here are some alternatives to Hera AI.
- Runway — Advanced AI video and motion-generation with strong coherence and text-to-video capabilities.
- Kling AI — High-fidelity AI video generator with smooth motion, 3D camera moves, and realistic outputs.
- Jitter — Fast, lightweight motion-design tool ideal for UI animations, titles, and social assets.
- Pika Labs — Strong text-to-video engine with good style variety, smooth motion, and creative control.
- Adobe Firefly Video Tools — AI-powered motion and video features integrated into the Adobe ecosystem for more professional control.
However, I must be honest, these tools aren’t even close to Hera.
They create amazing graphics, videos, and images. However, they are not made for AI motion graphics generators.
Takeaways
I like Hera, and I actually use it for my video intros.
The tool lets me turn simple ideas into motion graphics with no experience in motion design.
This is a huge timesaver with motion graphics.
Also, now that I no longer need to make Canva designs, those actually look so good.
To be honest, it took an hour for me to learn how to use it right. But now, 120 designs in, and I’m already pretty good at it.
Just don’t give it too complicated prompts. I recommend giving very simple instructions, and then step-by-step edit those with prompts and the built-in editor.
This is my favorite AI motion graphics generator, for sure.
