How to properly build a website with ChatGPT?

Hey all,

I’ve been building a website with ChatGPT. Initially, it was absolutely awesome. When I asked it to create something and write code, it blew my mind away. It quickly put together what I was looking for and showed me how and where to upload it to Visual Studio, how to run the front end and back end, etc.

However, as I’ve gotten deeper into my project, ChatGPT has gone a bit rogue. I don’t think the issue is it can’t properly answer my questions. It just…does its own thing from time to time. For example, after uploading a full ZIP file of my project and telling it to not change design/code unless prompted to do so, it will occasionally completely change something. And then, like a five-year-old when you catch them in the act of acting irresponsibly, apologizes! Like, wtf! I feel like I’ve been giving it some super strict guardrails, yet it continues to venture off on its own and do its own thing without being prompted to do so.

Any advice on how to fix this? All my chats are set up under a project folder, my account has “memory”, and I give it a very specific prompt at the start of each chat to only make edits that are requested and not to deviate. Would love to hear if anyone has had success building something big from the ground up with ChatGPT and has found the perfect way to harness its power.
