So disappointed with OpenAI! My friend’ daughter purchased OpenAI credits last year and just had her $500 prepaid credits wiped out without any notification.

Posting this on behalf of a friend who is going through this terrible experience with OpenAI.

My friend's daughter bought some OpenAI API credits last year whil working on a side project, testing models and coding assistants, thinking she'd eventually use it through their API for her project. However, she ended up shifting to some other models/tools for her project and didn't use up the full amount.

She had over $500 worth of OpenAI credits remaining, thinking she would definitely get around to using them. What she (and my friend) didn't realize was that these credits apparently have a 1 yr expiry date! They don't recall seeing this clearly stated when the purchase was made or receiving any emails about the upcoming credit expiration.

Few days ago, she loged in only to find that her entire $500+ balance has been wiped out, zeroed out with seemingly no notification whatsoever.

While I understand businesses need cash flow, losing such a large balance without a clear reminder or grace period feels completely unfair for individual users.

They tried using OpenAI's support chatbot, and didn't really get anywhere with that.

Has anyone here successfully managed to get a refund or, at the very least, have their expired credits reinstated? What's the best way to reach out to someone at OpenAI to resolve this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
