The sophomore LP from the Isle of Wight rock band solidifies their cheeky style while adding some polish
Isle of Wight indie rock outfit Wet Leg first came to my attention, and many others, with their 2021 Grammy Award-winning debut single “Chaise Longue.” Equal parts groovy, cheeky, and alluring, this track instantly made the duo of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers a group to watch.
Their self-titled first LP followed the next year and, while not my favorite project of 2022, certainly set the quality bar high with songs like “Angelica,” “Wet Dream,” and “Too Late Now.”
Now, three years later, Wet Leg has leveled up, so to speak. Teasdale and Chambers have added guitarist/keyboardist Josh Mobaraki, bassist Ellis Durand, and drummer Henry Holmes to the line-up, making their sophomore album Moisturizer their first as a five-piece. This boost in manpower shows in the final product, as Moisturizer solidifies their quirky flavor of indie rock, while polishing up their sound.
You can hear this sonic sophistication from the first track “CPR.” They return to a familiar lyrical theme, relating feelings of love to extreme discomfort, keeping the campiness up with calls to “put your mouth to mine and give me CPR.” Meanwhile, the band provides…
