Conversation can’t do web search anymore

I have a conversation where I’ve asked for a lot of etymologies of words. This is one of many such running conversations, and others in the past have been much longer without issue.

After a point it started inserting caveats unprompted like “without having references in front of me, here’s what I’d guess.” We hadn’t explicitly discussed references at all, but it had been using the web to answer my questions, and then stopped quietly (except for the little caveat in every response). This has persisted overnight.

I pushed further, and apparently it is forbidden to do more web requests in that conversation. It couldn’t search Reddit to find discussion of the same issue (reporting the exact same error message). However, a new chat did search Reddit with no issues, returning some links but nothing that was a good match.

Switching to a new conversation lets it use web search again but drops the context, so it’s an annoying workaround for an issue I’ve never seen before (I’m using 5.1 Thinking and I suspect it’s new with the 5.1 update). Just thought I’d report on it. Chat won’t tell me what the budget is.
