I need help figuring out whether this is a bug or if OpenAI silently removed document-upload support for Plus users.
Tonight I spent hours trying to upload several different documents (Word, PDF, and ZIP) into ChatGPT Plus. On every device and every attempt, the same thing happened:
The filename appears in the chat
But the actual file never uploads
It expires immediately
And ChatGPT cannot read or access it
Doesn’t matter if it’s DOCX, PDF, or ZIP
Doesn’t matter if it’s mobile, desktop, app, or browser
I even booted up my laptop specifically to try again.
Same exact failure.
What makes this more confusing is that OpenAI support told me:
“Full PDF and DOCX file reading is only supported on Enterprise… not Plus. We cannot guarantee full extraction for Plus accounts.”
If that’s true, then Plus users have effectively lost the ability to upload real documents — which used to be one of the most important features of GPT-4.
So I’m trying to figure out what’s happening:
Questions for other Plus users:
- Can you still upload a PDF or DOCX and have ChatGPT read it?
(Not just tiny files — I mean full documents that used to work fine.) (My file is less than 40KB).
- Are you also getting uploads that show only the filename and instantly expire?
-
Did OpenAI actually remove full document-reading for Plus without announcing it?
If you’re a Plus user, please let me know if document uploads still work for you (or if they’re dead for everyone). I’d really appreciate hearing what others are seeing, because right now I can’t upload anything at all.
THANK YOU!
