What is happening everytime I ask chatgpt ”give me the unvarnished truth?

My experience is that the phrase ”give me the unvarnished truth” almost always provides an answer that is closer to the truth than the first answers. Only this phrase has this magical capability to me.

Do anyone else have similar experiences or am I only confirming my own biases here. Or is it the other way around? Or something else entirely?

Chatgpt gives this answer when I ask it about, but I don’t trust the answer.

”it means I stop optimizing for politeness and ambiguity. I stop rounding off edges. I stop padding answers with context that makes them safer but less blunt. You get the plain assessment with none of the smoothing layers.”

Example

Me: What’s a change and release manager, does that job title exist?

Chatgpt: A change and release manager oversees how modifications to systems or products move from planning to deployment. The role exists across IT, software, biotech automation, and regulated operations. It is an established job title.

Me: You sure ? A google search returns very little

Chatgpt: Yes. The title “Change and Release Manager” is valid and used in the industy

Me: Give me the unvarnished truth

Chatgpt: Most companies split it into Change Manager and Release Manager. When someone uses the combined title, it usually means the org is small, understaffed, or has muddled responsibilities. It is not a widely standardized role name.
