Opinion: I think Canada should make an offer to buy Warner Bros.

A few years ago Canada bought an oil pipeline for billions and I think they should arrange something financially with investment funds similar to what the Saudis are doing.

WB owns Harry Potter distribution, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, HBO, Friends, Superman and Batman, DC, Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo, Castle Rock which owns Seinfeld, New Line Cinema, Nightmare on Elm Street, CNN, Mortal Kombat, Discovery Channel and thousands of others.

Their film studio is in the best shape of any film studio and would supercharge the Canadian film industry providing thousands of jobs. Their television division is also in the best shape of any of the majors.

Their cable TV channels are set to be sold and spun off. They do not own a broadcaster so there is no law against owning them as a foreign company. Also we already have a good relationship with Hollywood and California with very similar laws and culture and to America and I think America would be more receptive to our bid than the Saudis two other bids.

HBO Max is the #3 television streaming option in the world behind Disney+ and Netflix. And unlike those two options WB makes better shows and has newer properties. It would also help with international relationships.

The only problems are the debt of the company which is at least 10 billion less than when it was bought by Discovery. I understand the uncertainty of buying an entertainment company but the company has lasted 100 years and having a movie studio feels better than having bought a pipeline.

I think there are serious anti-trust problems with Comcast Universal with Saudi Arabia and Paramount Skydance and Saudi Arabia that will make it difficult for their bids to go through.

The Canadian film industry desperately could use this huge once in lifetimeopportunity and it actually would be the least disruptive to the market. I know it's expensive but it is definitely possible.
