Are we seriously pretending our GOTY vote actually matters? 🤔

I am honestly confused at this point. The Game Awards keeps advertising that the community helps choose the Game of the Year but our vote counts for only 10 percent while the jury controls 90 percent. That is not community involvement. That is a formality.

Look at what happened in 2024. Astro Bot winning GOTY shocked a huge portion of the player base. Fun game for sure but it was clearly not the top pick for most players I know. It feels like the jury already decides everything and our votes just exist to make the show look democratic.

If the vote is 10 percent then it is basically a decoration. Why even ask the audience to vote if it changes nothing. Either increase fan voting power or be honest and say the jury picks the winner.

What do you think

  • Should fan voting be 50 percent
  • Is this award show even representing gamers anymore
  • Or are we just here to boost their engagement while they do whatever they want
