I noticed yesterday that Ghost of Yotei tied for the second most category nominations at the Game Awards 2025 but didn’t receive a Game of the Year nomination in the end. It received nominations in 7 categories.
I was wondering if this set a record, for The Game Awards at least, and it indeed does. The previous record for most category nominations without a GOTY nomination was Destiny 2 with 6 in 2017. Followed by a six-way tie of 5 each with Firewatch and Inside in 2016, Hellblade and Cuphead in 2017, Hi-Fi Rush in 2023, and Silent Hill 2 (Remake) in 2024 (and technically Cyberpunk 2077 in 2023 but I’m not counting that).
Anyway, just an observation I thought I’d share.
