Cloudflare Outage Takes Out Competitors, but Google Gemini Is Unaffected

The major, ongoing Cloudflare outage has caused widespread chaos across the internet, leading to "500 Internal Server" errors for countless websites.

Most critically for the AI community: OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude are both down globally, confirming their reliance on Cloudflare's Content Delivery Network (CDN) and security services.

However, the key takeaway is that Gemini remains fully accessible.

This incident is a powerful real-world demonstration of infrastructure reliance:

  1. ChatGPT/Claude: Are confirmed to be using Cloudflare as a front-end for security, DDoS protection, or content delivery, making them susceptible to its service degradation.
  2. Gemini (Google): Runs on Google's own massive, globally distributed infrastructure (Google Cloud/Google Global Network). This independent setup is allowing it to function normally while the competition is offline.

For now, if you need an LLM for productivity, Gemini is currently the only major player standing.
