Age of Wonders 4 (4x strategy) is having a free weekend.

Look, I'm not getting paid to do this, but after the devs finally got around to adding the content I asked them to (along with stuff a bunch of other community members asked for, but shhhh), I do feel contractually obligated to make this post.

Game's worth a try imo. Simple TL;DR is fantasy 4x wizard wars with a relatively high game speed (campaigns cap out at 150 turns and I typically win around turn 70-80 with any of the win conditions). Main selling points are it turns into SRPG-style tactical combat with hero units that level and use equipment alongside soldiers when you fight, and extreme customization where you can make some wild builds work. Main weakness is that the game can often be something of a 'box of lego' experience where you assemble your build yourself out of whatever colored bricks you want, meaning things may be less flavorful and certainly less lore-rich than proper bespoke factions.

It's also more war oriented than say, Civ. But that's neither positive nor negative.
