I’m a huge fan of Celia Cruz, and I really believe she deserves a biopic! Given how influential she was — musically, culturally, historically — it surprises me that we still don’t have a major, globally recognized film or even documentary about her. Her journey and decades-long career, her impact on Afro-Latin identity… there’s so much material there that feels perfect for a cinematic treatment.
Do you guys agree that there needs to be a biopic about her life and career? Who do you think would be a great choice to play her?
Personally, I think Ariana DeBose could be a strong choice. She’s got the acting chops (when given good material), the energy, and the musical background, plus it would help her shake out of the weird career rut she’s been stuck in lately.
