But I just checked the official docs and the new Gemini 3 Pro Image model is actually live. The internal codename is officially Nano Banana Pro.
I ignored the funny name and stress-tested the model to see if it beats DALL-E 3 and Midjourney v6. Here is the breakdown of the 3 images attached and why the "Reasoning Engine" changes the game:
1. The Material Swap Test (Image 1: Ramen Car)
This is where DALL-E usually fails. I wanted to see if it could separate Structure from Texture. I asked for a "car made of ramen noodles."
Look at the result. It didn't just paste a noodle texture on a car. It built the wheels out of nori rolls and the windshield out of a boiled egg. It reasoned that these food items match those car parts mechanically.
2. The Infographic Test (Image 2: Chai Recipe)
This is the first time I have seen an image generator act like a graphic designer. It didn't just draw tea, it planned a layout.
Zero spelling errors. It listed ingredients correctly (Cardamom, Ginger) and ordered the steps logically. This implies it has a Thinking step before it starts drawing pixels.
3. The 14-Image Reference Stack (Image 3: Storyboard)
This is the feature referenced in the title. Most models choke after 2 reference images. This model supports up to 14.
- The Test: In the Astronaut image, the suit details and facial features remain consistent across the Wide, Medium and Close-up shots.
- Why it matters: For comic book creators or storyboard artists, this consistency is the "Holy Grail" we have been waiting for.
The Trade-off (Speed):
It is significantly slower than DALL-E 3. You have to wait for the Thinking badge to finish processing. It feels like the early days of Midjourney where you had to be patient.

Google is weird for the name, but this "Reasoning Image" approach is likely where OpenAI will go next. We are moving from Prompting to Directing.
