What is a detail in a movie that you’re embarrassed to admit you didn’t notice sooner?

I was watching L.A. confidential yesterday. Love the movie. Probably seen it a dozen times. There's a scene towards the beginning where James Cromwell asks Guy Pierce if he would ever plant evidence, beat a confession out of someone or shoot a suspect in the back to see justice done. Pierce answers no. At the end of the movie, he shoots someone in the back so he doesn't get away with it. For some reason I never put those two moments together until yesterday.
