His films are shot and cut in such a way that the majority of the runtime feels like a somewhat slow montage. The only exception being the action scenes which do have a little flow to them. The rest is a sequence of clips strung together to progress the plot without really telling a story.
Why do people enjoy this style? Is there a name for it as Zack Snyder seems to use a lot of similar techniques? Can studios stop giving them money to make movies already?
As a side note, the lighting and camera lens choices are often very unappealing as well.
Posting here because I’m watching The Island and I keep thinking over and over how much better the movie would be with a different director and how I have thought this for every other movie of his that I have tried watching.
