Stop Telling AI What to Do Try This Trick for Way Better Character Prompts

I stumbled onto a neat trick for making AI generate better prompts — and it’s stupidly simple. Instead of telling it what to do, tell it why you want it.

Example: I wanted a prompt to generate futuristic sci-fi characters for a story. Instead of:

“Make me sci-fi character prompts”

I typed:

“I want prompts for futuristic sci-fi characters that feel alive for my story, including personality, quirks, and background. Make it fun and detailed.”

The difference? Night and day. The AI suddenly gives me fully fleshed-out characters with unique traits, not just bland descriptions.

Turns out, giving purpose and context to your request makes the AI actually care about how it responds.

I’ve been experimenting with prompt-writing for months, and this was the game-changer. Framing your request with intent makes the AI “step into your shoes” instead of just spitting generic output. Works across writing, art, even coding.

💬 Example AI prompt (ready to use):

Create prompts for futuristic sci-fi characters for a story. Each prompt should include the character's personality, quirks, background, and unique details. Make it fun, detailed, and imaginative, as if introducing them to a friend.
