Certain actors managed to make comebacks by gaining more popularity or respect, or because they managed to have a better portfolio. What are the common factors that need to be present to make such comebacks possible?

The first person that comes to mind is Brendan Fraser because he was absent from Hollywood or was in very few roles in such a long period of time until he recently managed to gain more respect (possibly because of his caring personality as well) through certain roles that he performed very well like in the film 'The Whale'.

Some actors are so speculated that they can manage to have a comeback like for example, according to the reviews of the film 'The Smashing Machine', the Rock may possibly be making a comeback from acting very stale roles because this time, he portrayed a person from real life that was more vulnerable and insecure as opposed to his perfect portrayals as the strong and muscular main characters

Bautista is sort of the same. Not only his portrayal as an actor changed because of his physique, but he managed to perform more serious roles like Blade Runner 2049 and in Dune.

So, what factors are necessary or need to be present to allow actors/actresses to make such comebacks?
