Is paid Gemini significantly better than the free version?

I realised when using ChatGPT after my subscription expired that the rate of obvious mistakes and lacklustre responses went up when I became a free user (maybe because paid gets always the 5.1 model or just a placebo?) Is it the same thing with Gemini? If I pay will the quality of responses (without selecting a specific model) go up? What about the quality of live conversations?
