this ain’t it

One of the main benefits of Linux is that you own your computer. It works for you, and doesn't do anything unrelated to your work. This notification breaks that implicit contract and feels like the exact BS I thought I said good riddance to when I left Windows.

I generally like GNOME and understand they need donations, but this approach makes me less likely to contribute. I don't want to enable this cause if it works, it's going to start showing up in other software too. GNOME deserves support, but we need to make it clear that donation notifications ain't it. I've never seen anything like this on any open-source (desktop) software and I hope we can nip it in the bud.
