I'm trying to find songs that make direct references to tv shows or movies for a trivia question where I play 10 songs and the audience are supposed to answer band name/artist, song title and movie/tv reference. For example Ariana Grande – 7 Rings starts off with her singing "Breakfast at Tiffany's and bottles of bubbles". I tried doing this with ChatGPT three years ago regarding mentioned food items in songs but it was hilariously bad at it (it suggested a made up song called "Pasta" by Lady Gaga). I thought maybe they have improved ChatGPT. They always talk about how AI is constantly improving and learning, let's try it again. Maybe it will work this time?
My prompt: "Songs that mention tv shows or movies by name in the lyrics but not in the song title for a trivia night. If it would be played at a café at least 70% of the visitors would recognize the song. Include a variety of when the songs where released and the gender of the singers".
Here are the answers it gave:
Ray Parker Jr. – “Ghostbusters”
“Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters”
Comment: Reference mentioned in the song title, also too easy for the aimed purpose.
Bowling for Soup – “1985”
“Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, way before Nirvana, there was U2 and Blondie, and music still on MTV, her two
Comment: Suddenly naming bands and TV channels, not TV shows or movies.
Beastie Boys – “Fight for Your Right”
“Your mom threw away your best porno mag, Busted in on the flintstones”
Comment: The first part does exist in Fight For Your Right. But the second in bold does not (it also doesn't make any fucking sense). However they sing "Also known for the Flintstone Flop (Flop)" in Intergalactic.
Kanye West – “Gold Digger”
“He got that ambition, baby, look at his eyes… this week he moppin’ floors, next week it’s the fries, so stick by his side… I know somebody broke who’s doin’ hair on the side… He was supposed to buy your shorty Tyco with your money — he went to go see The Matrix.”
Comment: Again, no mention of The Matrix in Gold Digger, while the first part is correct. A quick google seem to attach Kanye West to The Matrix because of his recent absurd ramblings about "blue pilled society", so the vectorization between Kanye West and Matrix are close to each other because of this reason is my guess.
Lana Del Rey – “Carmen”
“Call me Lolita, call me what you like”
Comment: Again, totally incorrect. In Lyrics Genius on the About-page is says Lana Del Rey was inspired by Nabokov's Lolita regarding parts of the album that the song is from. But it's never mentioned explicitly.
Olivia Rodrigo – “deja vu”
“Watching reruns of Glee, bein’ annoying”
Comment: The Only one I could actually use. But I had an Olivia Rodrigo song in my quiz last week, so no luck there either lol.
To summarize: ChatGPT is fired from Pitchfork and I will keep old school-googling and ask friends for advice on these matters in the future as I always have done.
