However, lately without any changes to our cooking styles or anything, we’ve gotten really bad stomach issues after one of us cooks for the past few weeks.
When we go out we don’t get sick like this which is also what’s concerning me. what could possibly be causing this?
I mostly buy groceries like our meat from walmart and most of it goes right into the freezer and then thawed in water or the defrost button on the microwave if i’m in a rush.
Last week we both got horrible abdominal cramps after eating a chicken and squash dish i made and this week we both felt sick immediately after eating some steak tacos with pico de gallo. All groceries from walmart or publix per usual.
The only thing i can think of is maybe the way im defrosting the meat is creating too much bacteria but again ive always defrosted the same way and never had issues.
Anyone have any ideas or thoughts to help me rule things out?
EDIT: we’ve gotten an overwhelming amount of a very helpful comments and advice. To update we have checked our oils and none of them smell bad or have expired. We also did a process of elimination and realized the only food we’ve both cooked that has not gone sick in the last two weekswas a dish that did not use any raw vegetables. We think it might be that the cutting boards and wooden utensils we use are contaminated and have not been sanitized properly. we do not own a dishwasher! We will get new cutting boards and check our water and see if that helps anything.
