Gemini 2.5 pro had this same issue. I thought it may have been fixed with 3 (and it may be better, this is just one example, I haven't tested multiple runs), but this chat made it clear it's still a relatively prevalent issue.
I tried a new chat right away and it answered my question with the ss perfectly. It's definitely an interesting phenomenon. I'm curious how the issue will progress across different models. Hallucinations seem to be at an all time low for 3, but certain scenarios still seem to ignite its dark side a little too easily… (like hallucinating a photo of the backrooms…)
* After writing this post I realized I completely forgot to read its "thoughts" for its response and WOW. It's thoughts are way more interesting than I thought they'd be for this one
I am incredibly intrigued what picture it was seeing the whole time. Subway? Doom?Backrooms? Subway+Doom+Backrooms?! I know it was most likely hallucinating the image but still… this shit is trippy. Also on a side note, I think its hilarious it was trying so hard to find my odd yt handle to connect whatever fake dots it had for itself.
