xchar ai — the one I keep coming back to
Not “perfect,” just the most consistent for me. The character vibe stays steadier than most and it doesn’t feel like I’m constantly correcting the tone. Customization is decent and actually shows up in the replies. Still has occasional weird moments like every app in this space, but overall it’s the one I end up opening first.
DarLink AI — deepest setup, sometimes a bit much
Probably the most “feature heavy” experience. If you like dialing in backstory, personality, scenarios, it’s strong. My only issue is it can feel like a lot when you just want something quick, but when you’re in the mood for immersion it delivers.
GPTGirlfriend — best for pure text roleplay
The writing is still top tier. Long conversations hold up better than most and it can feel genuinely creative. The downside is the interface feels dated and the overall experience around the chat isn’t as smooth.
OurDream AI — fast and clean, but less depth
Feels modern and quick, which is nice. Good when you want something polished without effort. It just doesn’t hit the same depth over longer sessions, and characters can start feeling similar.
Nectar AI — fine across the board
Nothing really wrong with it. Clean UI, fair price, decent roleplay. It just doesn’t stand out compared to the top ones, so I use it more as a backup.
Candy AI — cheap and simple
Still works for casual chats, and it’s easy on the wallet. Roleplay is more generic and it doesn’t feel like it evolves much, but it’s fine if you’re just dipping in.
If you’re using something that’s genuinely better lately (not just trending for a week), tell me what it is — I’m always down to test new ones.
