November 2025: Hyperlapses and Time-Lapses using AI
Using AI in combination with your source images can help you produce engaging “explainer” sequences to augment your articles and enhance topic explanations. We take a look at generating Time-lapses and Hyperlapses as neat, short and engaging projects you can experiment with.
Hyperlapses and Timelapses
Time-lapses are a series of photos taken at intervals from a static viewpoint, which are then stitched together sequentially to show how a subject or scene evolves. For instance, the growth of a plant, or a view of a garden from dawn to dusk. Some may take weeks, months or years to complete, but are usually compressed into just a matter of seconds.
A hyperlapse takes the same concept but adds a dynamic dimension to it (i.e. movement). This could be subtle (like a dolly shot where a camera moves on tracks while capturing a subject) or a more elaborate sequence, such as a car-mounted camera that captures photos as the vehicle moves around during the day (e.g. a taxi driving through a city).
