I think this was the first time it put Edward Furlong's androgyny to good use as the film treats him like the ultimate object of desire in jail, everybody wants to f/ck Edward Furlong's character, Ron, so he ends up having a protector in Willem Dafoe's Earl, an aging prisoner, who openly admits to Furlong's Ron that he also fancies him but it will never go beyond the platonic side as they share a friendship.
We do get bizarre freaky scenes like a steroid buffed up Mickey Rourke playing a trans woman while in full Becky Ann Baker drag and Tom Arnold as a sadistic sex pest who can't wait to have Furlong's Ron all for himself.
It's a weird, very violent and yet strangely engaging prison drama. Cast is strong, movie pulls no punches and some scenes are not easy to watch. At one point, Arnold's character fingers Furlong.
