A Review: The Name Chapter Temptation (TXT)

Written by Guest Writer Prisha Malik

ALBUM: The Name Chapter: Temptation
ARTIST: Tomorrow by Together (TXT)
GENRE: Alternative pop, pop rock
RELEASED ON: 27 January 2023

Synopsis: “The Name Chapter: Temptation” is the 7 th album released by TXT. It consists of 5 tracks, including the chart-topping lead single “Sugar Rush Ride” and “Happy Fools” with Coi Leray. It is a pop album with a mix of songs of various genres such as afro beats or Latin-inspired ballads. The album in itself as well as the visuals for the album are heavily inspired by the classic story of Peter Pan, the hit movie Coraline as well as Korean traditional folk dance “Chunhyangga”. The album’s message has been put across through the story of Peter Pan, a young boy who could fly and did not want to ever become an adult. He convinces abandoned children, like the Darling siblings, to accompany him to Neverland, a place without any worries, by luring them with the temptation to fly.
Peter, in this album, has been compared to the evil entity of the devil while the artists have been compared with the Darling siblings. Lyrically as well as visually, the album has expressed that the seemingly harmless temptations young people face, eventually do cause harm and result in regret and sadness. Hence, it is wise to bid goodbye to the temptations and accept circumstances as they are.

Why is it worth listening: This album is a masterpiece both in terms of musicality and story line. The first track of the album “Devil by the Window” is a fast-paced English song and talks about the devil trying to lure the singers. The second track, “Sugar Rush Ride”, which is an enchanting melody paired with seductive lyrics, talks about how the singers fell into the trap of the devil and have given in to their desires. At first, it seems like they are happy because their dream has been fulfilled, which is what has been conveyed in the slightly whimsical and humorous third track “Happy Fools” but ultimately, it was the devil manipulating them. Now, their temptations have backfired on them and they are left regretting their decisions. The fourth track, which has afro beats, is “Tinnitus: wanna be a rock” tells us that now they have no hope, all their dreams are broken and their ambitions have failed. Following their remorse, they decide to get away from the devil’s fake Neverland which only brought more woe to them. This is what has been communicated through the last track “Farewell, Neverland”, which is a calm ballad.
My favourite song: “Farewell, Neverland”, a soothing melody paired with enchanting lyrics.

Rating-5/5
